Life is a Rollercoaster and I’m Running to Catch Up

Life is a beautiful gift that we are all given, but sometimes it can feel like it is moving at warp speed, leaving us struggling to keep up. It is a common feeling to think that time is passing by way too fast, and that we are missing out on what truly matters in life. As women, we often find ourselves feeling stressed while juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, and it can be challenging to find the time to focus on what truly brings us happiness, peace, and fulfillment. I mean let’s be real here: life can also be funny. Seriously, have you ever tried to balance a full-time job, kids, and a partner while trying to maintain your sanity? It’s a comedy of errors most days.

I remember one time years ago when I was rushing to get my daughter to school on time. I had a conference call scheduled with my supervisor and cohort for the same time. I thought, “No problem, I’ll just put the call on speakerphone and listen while I drive.” I should have known better. My daughter decided that that was the perfect time to start singing at the top of her lungs, completely drowning out my everyone on the call. Needless to say – that call did not go well. However, it was a good reminder that sometimes, you just have to laugh at yourself and your crazy life. Fortunately, the people I worked with at that time found humor in the situation at hand and we were later able to commiserate about being working parents.

We live in a world that is constantly changing, and it can be easy to get caught up in the chaos and lose sight of our life’s purpose. It is essential to take a step back and reflect on what we truly want out of life. What brings us joy, what are our passions, and what makes us feel fulfilled? These are the questions that we should be asking ourselves regularly to ensure that we are living a life that is aligned with our purpose.

As women, we often put others before ourselves, and it can be easy to forget to take care of our own needs. It is essential to recognize the importance of self-care and taking the time to do things that make us feel happy and fulfilled. Whether it is taking a walk outdoors in nature or around the black where we live, reading a good book, or spending time with loved ones, it is crucial to prioritize our own well-being.

One of the most important things we can do to find happiness, peace, and fulfillment in life is to focus on positivity. It can be easy to get bogged down by negative thoughts and experiences, but it is essential to recognize the good in our lives and focus on the positive aspects. Gratitude is a powerful tool that can help us shift our focus from what is going wrong to what is going right. There is now scientific data supporting that we literally can change our brain’s responses and emotional regulation through the practice of gratitude.

For me, one way to do this is by keeping a gratitude journal. Each day, I write down up to three quick things I’m grateful for. Sometimes they’re big things, like a promotion at work, and sometimes they’re small things, like a good cup of coffee or a hug from my partner. It’s a simple practice, but it helps me shift my focus from what’s going wrong to what’s going right.

Another way to promote positivity is by taking time for self-care. As women, we often put others before ourselves, but it’s important to prioritize our own well-being. For me, that means taking a long, hot bath or getting a massage. For you, it might mean something different, like going for a run or practicing yoga. Whatever it is, make sure you’re taking time to care for yourself.

Finally, it’s essential to remember that we’re all human, and we’re all doing the best we can. Life is messy, and it’s okay to make mistakes. When things don’t go as planned, take a deep breath and remind yourself that tomorrow is a new day.  You may even reframe the situation and put a positive or meaningful spin on it.

If you feel like life is moving way too fast, it is important to remember that we have the power to slow down and focus on what truly matters. As women, we can find happiness, peace, and fulfillment by recognizing our life’s purpose, prioritizing self-care, and focusing on positivity. Life is a beautiful gift, and it is up to us to make the most of it.
